ICCTA Professional Board Staff Member Award

2012 Recipient

Jeanne Hayden
Illinois Valley Community College

As Illinois Valley Community College's board secretary and executive assistant to the president, Jeanne Hayden is known as the campus "go-to" person for solving problems and promoting a positive work environment.

Working behind the scenes to facilitate the board's operations, she is as comfortable recording board minutes via shorthand as she is posting them online.

Hayden first began at IVCC as a student worker in the counseling division. After graduating with honors in 1972, she was hired as secretary to the dean of admissions.

Since then, she has taken on numerous support roles – including driving the college float in summer parades and typing the entire college catalog on a Composer Typewriter. In 1996, she was appointed to her current position and is now in the process of training her fifth college president.

Twice honored with recognition awards by IVCC, Hayden received the 2005 Central Region Professional Board Staff Member Award from the Association of Community College Trustees.

"The ICCTA's new Professional Board Staff Member Award was designed for individuals like Jeanne Hayden," says IVCC board chair Dennis Thompson. "Her professionalism and humble service extend to everyone in the college and community."
