2025-2027 Mandatory Trustee Training

Illinois Public Act 99-692 requires every community college trustee elected or appointed after January 1, 2017 to complete four hours of professional development leadership training during their 1st, 3rd, and 5th years in office.

The training must cover subjects “that shall include, but are not limited to, open meetings law, community college labor law, freedom of information law, contract law, ethics, sexual violence on campus, financial oversight and accountability, audits, and fiduciary responsibilities of a community college trustee.”

In order for a trustee to obtain credit for this training, the program must be offered by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association or a provider approved by the Illinois Community College Board.

ICCTA TRAINING: The Trustees Association sponsored and videorecorded an in-person, four-hour training on June 6, 2025 that meets the requirements of P.A. 99-0692. ICCTA members may access this free online training in mid-August.

DVD ORDERS: ICCTA's 2025-2027 training series will be available via DVD this fall. Each ICCTA member college may receive one DVD set at no charge; additional copies will be available for purchase. Please contact Stephanie Spann at [email protected] for ordering information.

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION: Trustees should notify their college board secretaries upon conclusion of this training in order to request an ICCTA Certificate of Completion. In addition, attorneys will receive 5.0 hours of general education and professional MCLE credits for completing this program.
