  • Coalition launches campaign
    to boost state funding
    for community colleges

A unique coalition of community college trustees, presidents, students and unionized college teachers and staffers have joined together to urge Gov. Blagojevich and the Illinois General Assembly to make community college funding a priority. The Illinois Community College Coalition for Funding has begun its campaign to boost state funding and raise public awareness of the many economic benefits of the state's public community colleges. Read more about the Coalition's campaign and its response to Gov. Blagojevich's FY09 budget request.

Billboards promoting community colleges are now appearing throughout Illinois.

ICCTA president Kathy Wessel (center) joined Cook County College Teachers Union president Perry Buckley (left) and City Colleges of Chicago chancellor Dr. Wayne Watson (right) at the unveiling of the Coalition's new billboard, which features the slogan "Community Colleges: Illinois' Best Investment."

The Community College Coalition for Funding holds a news conference at the State Capitol in Springfield.

The four main speakers at the Coalition's Feb. 20 news conference at the State Capitol in Springfield were (from above left): chair Terry Bruce (Illinois Eastern) of the Illinois Presidents Council; ICCTA president Kathy Wessel (DuPage); student Lesliefaye Gogins (Prairie State); and CCCTU president Perry Buckley.
