ICCTA Action Alert
May 8, 2003
The Workforce Investment Act reauthorization bill (House Resolution 1261) is
scheduled to go to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives this morning. Noah Brown of the Association
of Community College Trustees asks that if you have good connections to any influential Republican House
members, please send them the following message by mid-morning today:
"Please remember that community colleges feel it is important to:
(1) Address the need to fund operations of One-Stop Centers to assure participation by all appropriate providers;
(2) Streamline reporting requirements for training providers like community colleges;
(3) Find additional funds to help offset more of the costs of community college training programs, particularly in
critical and emerging needs areas;
(4) Assure an appropriate level of state and local funding support if the adult, dislocated worker, and
Wagner-Peyser funding streams are combined into a single stream."
Noah also said that HR 1261 is likely to pass the House, and that ACCT, the American Association of Community
Colleges, and other groups are focusing more on the Senate (where it is hoped that a better bill can be passed).
If you have additional questions, please contact Noah Brown (ACCT) at 202-775-4667 or Jim Hermes (AACC) at 202-728-0200, ext. 216.
